We’re all looking forward to getting back to the old normal. That may or may not happen in all respects.

However, with the right strategies and execution, there are some things that will return to normal.

Case in point: SmartBox’s data shows that our doctors’ new patient opportunities (NPOs) have already returned to pre-Covid normal. And practices are hitting 90-100% of their daily call goals.

That might be hard to believe, but it’s true. And there’s a simple reason. Everything Colin’s been recommending during his Survive & THRIVE webinars are things that we’ve been doing for our dentists, or helping them do.

  • Implement the Safety & Security Plan
  • Widely and frequently disseminate the safety measures to existing patients and prospects
  • Level up their teams with our Success Academy, focusing on the Money Funnel and improving performance on the 5 A’sAnswer, Appoint, Attend, Accept, and Average.

Our docs’ front offices were primed and ready to thrive when their respective states allowed them to resume something like normal operations. It’s too early to report on how well they’re doing on the other A’s following reopening, but we’ll keep you posted.

Why You Should Care About This

According to numerous experts, a second wave of Covid-19 is all but inevitable. In fact, the director of the CDC warned today about the possibility of the next wave occurring this fall.

There are differing opinions as to the timing of the second or even third wave, but in the near term, the worst-case scenario is that Covid-19 spikes at the same time as the flu. Should that happen, the morbidity and mortality figures will be beyond appalling.

Realistically, and based on historical data, we’re looking at fall or winter 2020 for the next wave of Covid-19 and the flu. And historically, second waves tend to be much worse than first waves because people have gotten lax about social distancing, mask-wearing, and handwashing.

So, here’s the upshot: you have maybe 4-5 months to position your practice to ride out the next round of shutdowns. If you weren’t ready for the first wave – and hardly any dentists were – you won’t get ready for the second wave by doing what you used to do.

You need to maximize the value of every qualified patient that contacts your practice.

Or your practice simply won’t be in position to weather the next wave. And if you’re still in the hole from the first shutdown, another might well spell the end of your business.

Now this scenario isn’t inevitable by any means, but there’s a reason that “Hope for the best but plan for the worst” is common business sense. The best possible scenario is that your practice is hugely over-prepared for the next wave.
