It’s fair to say that the challenges dentists faced in running a practice during 2020 will become far less in 2021. That’s in large part due to the development and pending approval of a number of remarkably effective COVID-19 vaccines.

While it’s true that reaching a significant immunization level  will probably take until summer, more immunized people should decrease the spread and severity of the virus. And with you and your team fully immunized – which is very likely – patients and potential new hires will be reassured.

Another bright spot on the horizon is the near-certainty of a highly coordinated federal approach to minimizing the spread and severity of the pandemic. That approach will include, among other things, fully utilizing the Defense Production Act to ensure that the supply of PPE becomes and remains both adequate and available.

Decisions, Decisions

So, let’s posit that 2021 will be much more like “business as usual” than 2020. What are your plans for your dental practice? Are you going to take a “wait and see” approach, or will you be more proactive in your thinking? Both plans of action, or inaction, have points to recommend them. It’s a question or whether you’re looking to minimize risk or maximize revenue and growth.

Now, no one is suggesting that you run out and purchase another dental practice or two. That’s viable if you have extraordinarily deep pockets, but not recommended for the vast majority of dentists.

By the same token, “hunkering down” and taking a wait and see approach isn’t recommended for most dentists either. There’s a genuine cost associated with missed opportunity, and that cost is one that many dental practices simply can’t afford.

As you’d expect, there are any number of balance points between the two alternatives; so many, in fact, that deciding on the right balance can be very confusing.

If you’d like to explore creating the optimal 2021 success plan for your practice, schedule a Practice Growth Call. This is a free, 45-minute consultation that we provide for growth-minded dentists, and there’s no obligation of any kind.

Here’s to a better, brighter, and more successful 2021.
